Technology - Essay Example The goal of modern warfare technologies like nuclear, chemical and biological weapons is to shatter the opponent by causing massive, large scale and indiscriminate loss of human life. Technology has not only made it possible to cause pervasive and senseless killing in human conflicts but â€Å"the challenges to the laws of war posed by technological revolution (Allenby 70)† have made modern warfare more unethical and impersonal. Simply speaking technology has made warfare more lethal by bringing into existence the weapons of mass destruction like the nuclear, chemical and biological weapons that cause senseless killing and are not concerned about the humane and ethical concerns governing wars. For instance, nuclear weapons are the creation of the technological development that has taken place in the past few decades. Nuclear weapons tend to be weapons of mass destruction that can cause large scale destruction and the loss of human life. Nuclear weapons rely for their impact on the energy inherent in the nucleus of an atom. When the particles in the nucleus of an atom either split or merge with each other, massive amounts of energy are released. When the nucleus of the atoms of a nuclear material like uranium or plutonium is split by using a neutron, leading to the release of energy, this process is called nuclear fission (Mueller 93). In contrast when the two atoms of an element like the isotopes of hydrogen merge leading to the release of large amounts of energy, this process is called nuclear fusion (Mueller 74). Nuclear weapons rely on nuclear fission or nuclear fusion to release energy that could cause massive bloodshed and destruction. The atomic bomb is a nuclear de vice that relies on nuclear fission to cause death and destruction. The atomic bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima during the Second World War released energy equivalent to 15,000 tons of TNT and killed approximately

Managing Construction Project Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Managing Construction Project Management - Essay Example Managing Construction Project Management It is clearly stated in the Standard Forms of Contract in UK that the building contractors are not made responsible for the building construction delays due to â€Å"exceptionally inclement weather†. However, the act of protecting the building contractors from project delays due to â€Å"exceptionally adverse weather conditions† is commonly used by almost all architects and building construction companies as a legal excuse for not completing a building project on a timely basis. Extreme changes in weather does not only cause delay on project deadline but also leads to the increase in mitigation costs, changes in the building technicalities, delayed completion of project payments, changes in the building design, and possible problems related to labour management. In line with this, Eggleston revealed that â€Å"an adverse weather should never be considered as a legal ground for contractors’ failure to perform their contractual obligations†. Building projects are usually defined by its scope, the available budget, and scheduling. Aiming to minimize the risk of future construction delays caused by adverse weather, this report will focus on discussing the significance of weather when making assumptions for the bidding and scheduling phases of the new construction project. Aside from discussing the partial and/or total ownership of risks associated with extreme weather events, the long-term extreme weather condition will be assumed based on the current scientific information that will be gathered and thoroughly discussed in this report.

Forecast refers to estimation about a future event. This is to say that it does not rely on the existing or current facts because the things or set of conditions that would determine such occurrence do not depend on the present happenings. For instance, the weather report is an example of a forecast mechanism. In principle, it does not matter that it is raining in the current time, in the next two days it may be a sunny day. Thus, future happening would be informed by future occurrences and happenings. Good collection strategy ought to encompass ability and impetus to retain the relationship and the affair that existed prior to the collection. This is to say that both parties should feel respected, satisfied and convinced about the eventual outcome of the collection process. In the human process and cycles, it may be emotional to force or to coerce a person say a friend to abide by the terms of the collection agreement. It would then mean and imply that the collector would be hurt because he or she would be forced to compromise his or her agreement and stance so as to accommodate the family ties or relationship or friendship. Thus, so as to realize the maximum and optimum collection points and strategies, it would be proper and imperative for the collector to engage a third party who would be neutral and new to all the parties involved. It would thus be safe to use services of a collection agency which would make sure there are no emotional involvements for any of the parties

Getting Lost Essay Example for Free

Getting Lost Essay I can vividly remember the first time I visited my aunts and uncles in their hometown when I was still a child. It was a big city and the malls during that time were so huge in my eyes. I was with my grandparents then because my parents were so busy with their jobs. As a child, I was very excited to visit other place and see new things especially when I have not visited yet the place of my relatives. It was totally my first time to visit there and my first time to travel without my parents so I told myself that it would be a lot of fun without their presence. I undoubtedly and excitedly packed up my things and told my parents that it would be a memorable trip with my grannies. Besides, nobody can’t watch and reprimand me whatever I wanted to do because grannies were so lax in dealing with me. Unlike with my parents, they were so tight and disciplinarian when I was younger. To make the long story short, when I arrived in my relatives’ place, I was so astonished and surprised. The things I heard were really true. I happened to passed by in the heart of the city and I was so delighted of what I see. There were big buildings and modernized malls. I immediately told myself to ask my grannies if I could stroll around the city and look at the malls. Well, since they were not so tight, they allowed me to go to the mall but with two conditions, I should be back before eight in the evening and should take one of my cousins to the mall that was three years older than me. Wow, eight? It was still one in the afternoon and I can do many things with those hours of being in the mall. The mall we went to, I forgot its name because it happened many years ago, was so huge. It had 7th floor and the area was so vast. I was very excited as I got in. I immediately roamed around the mall and looked at the latest fashion. I was very happy at that time and could not speak because of excitement. I told my cousin to wait for me in the fast-food inside the mall because I am going to look at clothes first and promised to be back soon. However, I was so unconscious with the time that I was not able to go back to her as I promised. I was talking to myself that it was my time to enjoy because there were no oldies around. I started to go up and see what’s more on the rest of the floors. I enjoyed playing with the games in its amusement park and feasted on delicious ice cream (and totally forgot about my cousin who accompanied me) which was my delight when I was younger. When it was about past six in the evening, I went to the seventh floor and tried to have a look. I was able to see there big stuff toys and other toys for the kids. I was tempted to buy one but my money was not enough though so I just looked and fed my eyes with beautiful things I saw. I started to go down and plan to go back to my cousin around seven. When I was about to go down, I can’t traced anymore where I passed. I started to become startled and nervous. Because of my excitement, I forgot to remember my cousin who was waiting for me in the fast-food. I tried to remember the floors but I could not. I did not know that there were many entrances and exits in that mall and was not informed by my cousin that we passed in the second floor to get in the mall. I was roaming and roaming in order to trace where I previously passed by and get back to my cousin. But I could not find the fast-food where I left her especially there were a lot of people in the mall at that time. My heart pounded so fast not because of excitement but because of worry and nervousness. I wanted to cry but hold back my tears and started to blame myself why I did that. I regretted why I did not take her with me when I roamed around. In spite of that, I did not lose hope. I continue to look and look until I can pass again the path I passed hours ago. Since it was almost eight, my cousin was also starting to worry about me. It worried her where am I already and what happened to me, because I only told her to be back soon but I never did. Because of that, she went to the information and paged me. I was so relieved when a lady was paging me to meet my cousin at the information area. But since I did not know where the information was, I unashamedly asked one of the salesladies and fortunately I was able to get there. When I saw my cousin, I started to cry because of nervousness and was thankful that I saw her.

The Fear Of Science :: essays research papers

The Fear of Science To live in the today's world is to be surrounded by the products of science. For it is science that gave our society color television, the bottle of aspirin, and the polyester shirt. Thus, science has greatly enhanced our society; yet, our society are still afraid of the effect of science. This fear of science can be traced back to the nineteenth century where scientist had to be secretative in experimenting with science. Although science did wonders in the nineteenth century, many people feared science and its effects because of the uncertainty results of science. Our thrist for science can be traced back through many decades. However, the nineteenth century society felt that science was a great investment towards a better life. This investment in science gave the nineteenth century society the discovery of light waves and radio waves, the electric motors, the first photograph and telephone, and the first publication of the periodic table. Science also caused an uproar in society when Charles Darwin published The Origin of Species, which became the scientific basis for the study of the evolution of humans. Many people in the nineteenth century detested Darwin's theory of the evolution of man because it went against their religion, which believed that God created the world. Science, soon, developed the big bang theory, which states that earth was created by the attraction of atoms. The nineteenth century society was afraid of science because it contradicted their beliefs, and was afraid that the results of science would lead to the destruction of mankind. Thus, the study of science was limited because of fear of its effects. The fear of the effects of science was expressed in literature. Novels like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the Time Machine, and Frankenstein showed the dangers of science and that science would soon lead to the destruction of mankind. The novel Frankenstein is about a man name Victor Frankenstein who wanted to tamper with life and death by "exploring unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation." (Frankenstein, pg.40) He acquired the knowledge of science when he attended the university of Ingolstadt, and once the knowledge of science was gained, Frankenstein went to his secret laboratory to create a creature with gigantic stature. At first, Frankenstein had doubts about creating a human being; however, with "the improvement which every day takes place in science and mechanics, [he] was encouraged to hope [his] present attempts would at least lay the foundation of future success." (Frankenstein, pg.47) Once Frankenstein created his human being, his dream was vanished because he had accomplished his dream.

Exercises for Different Specific Muscle Groups

Muscles, together with our bones, shape a human’s body framework. Muscle causes motions by exerting force. It is divided into four muscle groups which are the head and neck muscles, trunk muscles, upper extremity and lower extremity muscles. A well-balanced exercise program helps to maintain muscle strength and tone.Head and neck muscles move our head and shoulders thus proper exercise is needed to relax and maintain the natural muscle girdle. One can do the isometric front and back neck exercise wherein the person will sit and will gently push his or her head backwards without bending the neck to develop neck muscle. Try to avoid any more head movements as you resist the push. After doing this for 16 counts, work on pushing from the back side of your head (Miller).Trunk muscles can gain more strength from stability ball exercises. Â  You can do full squat with the stability ball by immediately extending legs and standing up and down while pressing hands up above the head to keep wrists over elbows and arms moving parallel to your body. Do this for 20 counts and then for another set.Another exercise for your trunk is the stability ball crunch wherein first you will sit upright in the stability ball with feet firmly on the floor. Walk forward allowing the stability ball to roll until it is placed on to your mid-back part. Place your hands in your chest and contract your abdomen and raise your shoulders up. It is like having sit-ups while taking care of your neck not to be strained by keeping the head at the neutral position. Do this in 20 repetitions for 3 sets (Sports Fitness Advisor).Upper extremity/limb muscles include shoulder, forearm, down to finger muscles. Strive to finish 12-15 repetitions push-ups/triceps push-ups. After that, hold free weights with your palms facing up, stand with feet hip-width apart, abdomen tight. Lift the weights, turn the palms face out, then do in reverse motion. Repeat for 12-15 repetitions (MedicineNet). To improve your lower extremity/limb muscles, do ankle exercises by sitting erectly with your soles against the base of a wall, keeping your legs straight. Place your hands on the floor behind you for support. Flex your feet to bringing your toes toward the shins. Repeat for 5 times to stretch and get your leg’s natural girdle. Last, to improve your hamstrings lie on your back with one knee bent and its foot on the floor.Extend the other leg on the floor with foot bended. Lie down your hands on your side and then extend your straight leg in the air forming as close to 90 degrees with respect to your upper body. Then lower your leg to the floor repeating for 5 times. Try to increase your motion speed with each repetition. Hold your leg up in the air on the last repetition. Jog or brisk walk for 2 minutes after completing all the exercises.

Establishing a Project Management Office (PMO)

Establishing a Project Management Office (PMO) Project Management Office (PMO) â€Å"A Project Management Office (PMO) is described as a centralized, coordinating body within an organization or a project that provides a focal point for the field of project management† (Young, 2009). As such, its key function is to define and address issues that relate to management of projects in order to facilitate success in organizational results for projects.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Establishing a Project Management Office (PMO) specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The establishment of a Project Management Office has several advantages to an organization. As the Project Management Consultant in a company considering establishing a PMO, I would put several aspects into consideration. However, a PMO has more advantages in running of a company than any potential disadvantages. As the PM Consultant for the company, I wish to mention why a PMO should be adopted. As suc h, the main benefits of adopting a PMO in a company are as described in the following paragraphs. Reasons for Adopting the PMO Many companies across the continent have been struggling to deliver projects within budget, but with minimum success. However, several management challenges faced by these companies have resulted in unsuccessful attempts to meet their targets. Project success rates have been reported to decrease in the recent years due to failure in management. â€Å"As such, there has been a dramatic increase in late and over-budget projects in 2010, as compared to 2009† (Krigsman, 2011). Table 1.0 shows the summary for projects statistics for the years 2009 and 2010. Risk Factor 2009 Average 2010 Average Percentage of projects taking longer than expected. 35.5 percent 61.1 percent Percentage of projects with costs exceeding allocated budget. 51.4 percent 74.1 percent Percentage benefits realization from delivered projects. 67.0 percent 48.0 percent Table 1.0: Projects Statistics for the year 2009 and 2010 Source: ZDNet (2011).Advertising Looking for report on project management? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More On the other hand, latest survey from the PM Solutions Research has indicated that PMO has a significant contribution to project success. The detailed results of PMO contribution are as given below (PM Solutions Research, 2010): 31 percent reduction in failed project. 30 percent of projects delivered under budget. 21 percent improvement in productivity. 19 percent of projects delivered ahead of schedule. 17 percent saving per project has been confirmed. A 13 percent increase in resource capacity. As a result, it is mandatory to implement a PMO in order to experience improved project success rates. However, there are several guidelines to be followed to ensure the PMO benefits are accompanied with high-success rates. Some of the benefits of establishing a PMO in the company are described below (Young, 2009). Focus on improvement in project management competency. Knowledge and project management skills are improved through training. There are increased levels of uniformity and consistency in project delivery. There is a reduction in project overruns, hence, improved delivery speeds. Customer satisfaction as a result of meeting product requirements. There is a common point for the project management service. Archiving project operational and performance data. Steps in Building a Successful Project Management Office (PMO) Since it is like any other organizational change project, implementation of the Project Management Office will be approached in the same manner (Hill, 2008). There are several steps that need to be followed so that success can be guaranteed. As the PM Consultant for the company, I have identified the following key steps to use for the PMO implementation. Establishment Role, Scope and Office The initial set up of the PMO will involve the establishment of the organizational role and scope (power) of the office (Hill, 2008). During the set up process, there are several factors to consider in defining the office and are referred to as PMO evolves. In collaboration with the company’s executives, these factors can be identified and incorporated as it may be rendered necessary. The following are the most urgent and influential factors that are a must to be considered in establishing a PMO. First of all, it will be necessary to consider the reporting arrangements because it has a significant influence on the determination of the roles and power of the PMO. In this situation, an independent PMO that reports directly to the executive group is preferred. This will allow for a greater degree of functionality of the PMO, thus, resulting in better management of project related issues (Steph, 2007). As such, there is no restriction of the PMO’s operation within certain departments alone, but free a nd independent operations in all departments.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Establishing a Project Management Office (PMO) specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Secondly, the scope of projects that the PMO will assume responsibility has to be identified. Depending on the needs and size of organization, the PMO can assume responsibilities for all the projects or limited to certain projects such as IT. During the first implementation process, it is essential that the PMO is restricted within the organization. This will enable the company evaluate its performance and define new ways of improving future ventures. Finally, the PMO can be established as a permanent or temporary office depending on the company’s needs. Temporary PMO offices can be set up for functions such as reflecting on a year’s initiatives. On the other hand, a permanent office will allow for an ongoing assessment of an organization’ s projects. Depending on the cost implications, companies usually prefer permanent offices because they are more economical in the long run. Human Resource Functions The second stage of setting up the PMO involves taking care of human resource issues such as selection and recruitment, training and certification, and providing resources to projects, among others. These functions are available in both cases where the PMO is independent or directly responsible for projects. The following human resource factors are the most essential in setting up project management offices. Selection and recruitment of project staff is a responsibility that the PMO can assume when established. This is a necessary step where pertinent professionals such as project managers can be selected and assigned to projects that have been identified (Hill, 2008). It ensures that the project management culture of the organization is in accordance with the company’s scope. As such, there is a continuous impro vement in the organization’s professional project management staff; thus, improved productivity. The PMO can also take responsibility in administering training the company’s staff. The body can undertake these functions by itself or through other external bodies. The PMO sets up the minimum standards required for selection and promotions to higher project management posts.Advertising Looking for report on project management? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More This step ensures that recruited members are fit and competent to undertake the project responsibilities set before them (Steph, 2007). As a result, the project managerial skills can be developed and promoted for the organization’s success. Another important role that PMO’s provides is coordinating the supply of resources to the organization’s projects. This function may involve posting of project managers to projects or even the entire project staff. However, the growth and expansion of an organization is the factor that will determine the actions to be undertaken. For instance, growth will result in the need to manage projects resources systematically. As such, it may be essential for the PMO to assume the works for allocating resources to projects. Setting up Project Management Standards The third step undertaken by the PMO involves the establishment of project management standards. This will provide a backing for which the PMO will use to manage how the comp any responds to its projects (Hill, 2008). This helps to define the organizational layout for projects and can provide either direct or indirect influence on the projects. The factors handled during this stage are described in the following paragraphs. The initial and most significant step is to set up the Project Management Methodologies. These may include defining the project life cycle or project execution standards. The former involves defining the sequencing of project activities such as design, building, testing and hand-over. However, the latter involves determining the parameters for items such as documentation, reporting and issue management. This is a key role in determining how an organization will be responding to its projects needs. Therefore, the role is usually assigned to the PMO to ensure a successful project execution is realized. Another role that is closely associated with setting up methodologies includes the provision of templates. Provision of templates for pr oject activities has a direct influence on how projects are run. There are several forms of templates that can be used such as status reporting, risk assessment and budgeting among many others. This is an extremely helpful step for organizations that are new to project management because it allows them to establish standard processes much faster than expected. Also, it may be necessary for an organization to provide project management tools to assist in the effective management of more complex projects. These tools usually have both direct and indirect impact on the management of organization’s projects. Project management tools may include templates (mentioned above), project management software, and other customized tools (Steph, 2007). Project Execution Functions Usually, project execution functions are closely linked to the PMO’s resource ownership relationship. As such, a PMO that owns its resources (project managers or project resource group) has more responsibil ities in the management and execution of the projects. The following functions in project executions are handled by the Project Management Office in an organization (Steph, 2007). A comprehensive risk management function can be assigned to the Project Management Office depending on the need at hand. The functions may vary from the initial setting up of standards and procedures for risk management processes to facilitation of project risk management. Risk and issue management functions are assigned to PMO’s to ensure there is maximum success among handled projects. Impact and change management functions are well managed by the PMO. As such, the PMO assumes all the responsibilities for measuring project impacts on shareholders, customers, employees and other associates. The importance of PMO’s functions on impact assessment increases as an organization’s size and project portfolio increases. This helps in the determination of better ways to handle future projects by avoiding possible future problems on similar projects. Communication is an extremely useful tool required to shape the current and future direction of projects. As such, the PMO should be well exposed to several projects to develop effective ways of managing communication within projects and other areas of a company. Some of the techniques used to improve communication within projects include the use of direct methods like presentations and newsletters; or the use of indirect methods such as provision of Intranet sites and directories. Large corporations with several projects are suitable for this communication that is aided by PMO’s. Business Strategy Responsibilities Several organizations that are constantly improving their technologies and those with large expenditures on their projects require a PMO with increased roles. This is necessary to ensure that such organizations do not make unnecessary losses due to technology lags or overboard project expenditure. In such si tuations, the PMO will assume a crucial role in making strategies for such organizations. The following strategic intents can be undertaken by such organizations. One strategic move by a PMO can involve the gathering of initiative proposals. As mentioned earlier, this may include the submission of guidelines and templates that can be used as aids by people submitting proposals. Another strategic function may involve the evaluation of projects as a central area for the planning of organization’s projects. This would include proposal evaluations basing on different criteria. Some of the fundamental criteria that are used include resource impacts, costs, risk assessments, schedules, etc. The PMO may also use project prioritization to categorize the most critical projects. As such, this could be used for identifying which projects to start working on and with what speeds in order to meet their deadlines. Furthermore, project prioritization can be used to identify projects with th e most financial benefits, easier resources availability, and those with minimal risk assessment (Steph, 2007). When accompanied with project planning and scheduling, the PMO delivers quality projects within the allocated time frame. Associated to project prioritization and scheduling (as mentioned above) is the PMO’s role in project funding and approval. In this strategic move, the PMO ensures that the necessary funding is made available to projects at the most appropriate time so as to allow for maximum productivity. Therefore, all budgets directly relating to projects are handled by the PMO of the organization in order to maintain smooth operations. Reviewing the PMO After the establishment of all the five stages described above, the Project Management Office is completed and ready to start offering its services. However, the PMO will need to be constantly reviewed, and modifications made as it serves the organization (Hill, 2008). Changes resulting from the organizationâ €™s growth lead to subsequent changes in the roles and scope of the PMO. Therefore, it is mandatory that the PMO staff work together with the organization’s executive in order to review the PMO’s scope and performance. As a result, the PMO will remain functional and relevant to the changing business needs of the organization. Conclusion In this paper, the benefits and essential steps undertaken in setting up a PMO were discussed. The determining factors may vary depending on the size, type, and project portfolio of the organization. The application of those factors that were discussed will enable an organization to establish methods that will result in maximum productivity. Therefore, it is recommended that organizations looking for project success establish a PMO to manage its internal and external projects. Protecting Our children essays

Protecting Our children essays The overlap between domestic violence and child abuse has been well documented; where one form of family violence exists, there is a likelihood the other does as well. Child abuse and domestic violence often occur in the same family and are linked in several ways that have serious consequences for the safety of children. First domestic violence may directly result in physical and/or psychological harm to the child. Second, even though a child may not sustain physical injuries, domestic violence can interfere with parenting to the point that the child is neglected. Third, if child abuse and domestic violence are present in a home, both problems must be addressed to effectively Children can be injured as a direct result of domestic violence. Batterers may physically, emotionally, and sexually abuse children in order to control the actions of their spouse. Children may also be injured by objects or weapons used to attack their mother. Assaults on younger children may occur if the mother is holding the child while being attacked. Older children who try to break up violent disputed between parents may Children of all ages are affected by domestic violence. Infants exposed to violence may not develop the attachments to their caretakers which are critical to their development. Preschool children regress developmentally and suffer sleep disturbances. Schoolage children who are exposed to violence may exhibit depression, anxiety, and violence towards peers. Later in life, these children are at risk for incorporating violence into their own relationships. There is also evidence that children exposed to domestic violence are at greater risk for abusing drugs and alcohol and for committing violent The most effective way to help mothers and children is to combine child protective and domestic violence programs. This way both victims are pro ...

Good MBA Recommendation Letters Advice

Good MBA Recommendation Letters Advice MBA program applicants often have a difficult times procuring recommendation letters that work. If you are wondering what qualifies as a good recommendation letter, who better to ask than an actual admissions representative? I asked representatives from top schools what they like to see in a recommendation letter. This is what they had to say. Good Recommendation Letters Show Strengths and Weaknesses The best letters of recommendation highlight with examples both the strengths and weakness of the candidate in light of a peer group. Typically, admissions offices limit essay length, but we all encourage recommenders to take the space they need to help build your case. - Rosemaria Martinelli Associate Dean of Student Recruitment Admissions at Chicago Graduate School of Business Good Recommendation Letters Are Detailed When choosing someone to write a letter of recommendation, dont get wrapped up in title, you want someone who can really answer the questions. If they cant answer the questions, they arent really helping you. You want some one who knows what you have done and what your potential is. - Wendy Huber, the Associate Director of Admissions at the Darden School of Business Good Recommendation Letters Are Insightful Letters of recommendation are one of the few components of an application that are submitted by an objective third party. They provide important insight into an applicants professional abilities and characteristics. We ask for two letters of recommendation, ideally from professionals as opposed to professors, and one is required from a current, direct supervisor. Its important to find people who can provide true insight into your professional accomplishments and potential to be a future leader. - Isser Gallogly, Executive Director of MBA Admissions at NYU Stern Good Recommendation Letters Are Personal The two letters of recommendation that you submit should be professional in nature. Your recommenders may be anyone (current/former supervisor, former professors, etc.) who is able to comment on your personal qualities, career potential, and potential to succeed in the classroom. Recommenders should know you personally and be familiar with your work history, credentials, and career aspirations. - Christina Mabley, Director of Admissions at McCombs School of Business Good Recommendation Letters Have Examples A good letter of recommendation is written by someone who knows the candidate and his/her work well, and can write substantively about contributions, leadership examples, and differences of opinion and disappointment. A good letter of recommendation highlights these characteristics through recent examples and is persuasive about a candidate’s ability to be a positive contributor, both inside and outside the classroom. - Julie Barefoot, Associate Dean of MBA Admissions at Goizueta Business School Good Recommendation Letters Include Work Experience The George Washington University School of Business views recommendation letters as an essential component of the evaluation process. Recommendation letters from clients or individuals who have worked closely with the applicant and can speak specifically to the professional performance of an MBA candidate are most useful. While recommendations from high profile figures can be seductive, in the end if the recommendation cannot demonstrate that that the recommender has had any personal experience of the applicant’s work, it will do little to bolster the candidate’s prospects for admission. A good recommendation letter clearly speaks to the candidate’s professional strengths and challenges and provides concrete examples whenever possible. Overall, we look to a recommender to provide insight as to how a candidate can both benefit from and contribute to an MBA program. - Judith Stockmon, Executive Director of MBA and Graduate Admissions at The George Washington Univer sity School of Business

Children's Health Topics - ADHD Annotated Bibliography

Children's Health Topics - ADHD - Annotated Bibliography Example The researchers studied ADHD in children of pre-school age. They researched three parenting programs that showed promise in helping small children. The authors suggested that parents should have some type of parent training before they start treating their children with medication. They also discuss the barriers to using this method and give several ideas of how to work with preschoolers in addition to this model. The researchers state that medication should be used after they have tried parent training. The researchers present the dual pathway model and state how it should be used in preschool. This research is important to a paper on ADHD because it provides information about alternative interventions that are working. They suggest that parents must be able to control their children before they send them to school. Many parents want to find alternatives to treating their children with ADHD because they do not want to use drugs. This article gives an understanding of ADHD from a doctors perspective and it provides information about alternative nutrition that has been shown to help children and adults with ADHD. The researchers provided information on several studies, including a double-blind, crossover controlled trial that was designed to understand whether artificial food coloring and benzoate preservative in children's food could influence their hyperactivity. The trial included 1800 three-year-olds. The conclusion from these researchers was that ADHD is complex, and it should be treated with a multi-faceted treatment program.

Nursing older people Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Nursing older people - Essay Example Falls were common with the elder group in acute facilities or aged care ones (Hill et al, 2007). The incidence was higher in the inpatient settings of the various institutions (Hill et al, 2007). In Australia, 38% of adverse events were made up of falls and international figures were similar (Hill et al, 2007). A CDC statistics had reported that falls were a leading cause of death among older adults in the US (2004). Fall prevention was of utmost necessity in a world where the older people were increasing dramatically, living into the 80s and 90s. The critical health care issue of elder abuse and neglect was one filled with dilemmas and problems for nurses. Nurses had to be aware of the causes for abuse, questions for screening and the symptoms as they were the best persons to help reduce the distressing effects. Ideally suited to detect and manage elder abuse and neglect, nurses who were regularly contacting them could identify the marks of abuse on the body of the elder or deduct t he underlying problem of abuse from the attitude of the person (Muehlbauer and Crane, 2006). The nurses were qualified to make physical and psychological assessments. Collaborative efforts with physicians and support services could be helpful in tackling the elder abuse. Authorisation of home health care or advice on hospital admission further elevated their role in handling the abused. Falls in acute care facility Impacts Head injury, soft tissue injury and fractures were the usual consequences of 30-40% of elderly falls (Hill et al, 2007). Psychological trauma in the form of negative effects could occur. The fear of falling again and anxiety troubled the elders (Hill et al, 2007). Prolonged hospitalization or moving into an acute care centre associated with increased costs became necessary (Oliver et al, 2004). The provider was worried over the drop in quality of care and a decreased functioning (Hill, 2007). The family and staff were distressed. Health resource expenditures were increased due to prolonged stay and additional diagnostic procedures and medicines (Hill et al, 2007)). Total cost of falls in the Australian Health Care System was found to be 2.1 million Australian dollars. A hospital in the US reported that hospital stay was 12 more days for fallers than the other patients controlled for age, gender and length of stay up to the fall (Hill et al, 2007) Implications of practice Prevention programmes had included core care plans (Healey et al, 2004) and multidisciplinary teamwork (Haines et al, 2004). An economic evaluation could help decision-makers and administrations in hospitals to provide ample resources for fall prevention moves. Hill had pointed out that costs did not only exist for hospital stay, they continued after discharge for more therapy and support services from the community (2007). The anxiety produced to the patient and care-giver could also be considered as costs. Risk factors were cognitive deficits, Parkinsonism, history of hip fractures and respiratory infections. McCarter-Bayer had indicated acute delirium states, problems of bowel and bladder control, dependence in daily living and disabilities (2005). Environmental, systemic factors, comorbidities, costing data for full research period also needed to be addressed. Identification of

English - Research Paper Example Seeking happiness means setting achievable standards mentally and striving to reach such position regardless of the situation one is. Therefore, I believe that the achievement of happiness is independent of one’s health or wealth, but these can act to impede or make it hard for one to achieve happiness. At the point of starting to be happy, a decision has to be made albeit mentally that the person wishes to achieve happiness. The happiness to be achieved can be attached to the achievement of something else such as a degree or it can be attached to nothing. At times when the happiness is attached to something, the thing that happiness is attached is usually something that a person seeking happiness knows or feels that it will give him contentment. When the achievement of happiness is not attached to the achievement of something else, the person still has to fight emotional battles in order to reach a position of happiness. The standard that one has set to cause happiness depends on the upbringing of the person and also the experiences that a person has to pass through to where he is. Inexperienced persons, and those who did not lack anything in life have a high expectation on happiness and are usually unhappy and discouraged when they do not achieve the standards they have set. Thos e people who have had stricter experiences in life, or those who have had a chance to interact with challenged people in society usually have lesser standards of happiness, and value those things which cannot be bought in life such as good health. A person who has ever been admitted or who has fallen sick because of chronic conditions will appreciate the concept of good health and will be happier when in good health than other people at similar health. It is entirely upon someone to decide that they want to be happy, and happiness is a very subjective matter, and what

Goverment & Funding In the State of North Carolina - Personal Statement Example The paper will involve an analysis of supporting and contrasting views on the federal law. The supporters of the federal law believe that it will ensure affordable health care to all the citizens. Governor Bev Purdue has stated that ‘innovation’ can help in curtailing the health care costs and improve health care in North Carolina. The governor had consulted several health leaders in Raleigh in the state health directors’ conference. Governor Purdue stated â€Å"The work being done at the local level, through health departments, educators, schools, non profit organizations and the business community combined with the support of all state agencies is essential to inspire people to action†. A special drive to improve the health of all the people of North Carolina has been adopted through certain objectives stated in the â€Å"Healthy North Carolina 2020 Plan†. The primary focus of this plan would be on the use of tobacco, unsafe sex, nutritional and physical activity, environmental risks, communicable diseases, mental health, infant and mother’s health, chronic diseases and dental health to name a few. Training and development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Training and development - Essay Example However, to achieve supremacy within the related domains, training and development should be allotted the best possible resources and time. The systems approach (model) towards training and development is significantly drawn up because it pinpoints how its four different phases of needs assessment, program design, implementation and evaluation are shaped up within the reins of an organization. These are for the eventual basis of the employees themselves, because there is a great deal of importance on how the employees would be able to give in their best time and again. Within the needs assessment, the analysis of the organization is done so as to find out where the employees are lacking and what the organization can provide to them as a result of the same. Then on, the task analysis is looked upon at with a greater concentration because this deems significance for finding out what kind of need the employees have within their fore. When the task analysis gets completed, the organizati on moves on to the next phase of needs assessment which is the personnel analysis where each and every employee who requires training and development is determined with regards to his professional strengths and weaknesses.

My Life had stood - a Loaded Gun Essay Example for Free

My Life had stood a Loaded Gun Essay Emily Dickinson’s â€Å"My Life had stood a Loaded Gun† is a powerful poem that takes into account various thematic expressions. Its comprehensiveness in brevity is another essential feature of this poem. It symbolizes power and unconventional feminist urges on the art of the poetess. In this poem, Emily Dickinson finds an instrument adequate enough to render her need for fulfillment through absolute commitment to love’s service. The poem begins with a brilliant conceit. Fused from the ambiguous abstraction of life and the explicit concretion of loaded gun, it expresses the charged potential of the human being who remains dormant until â€Å"identified† into a conscious vitality. And after hat identification, we observe the start of a new poem i. e. the start of a new life. Historically, it was written in age when American society was torn with civil war. The symbol that Emily Dickenson has used is an essence of an experience. It is quite obvious that a universal insight that the poet tries to express in not obtained merely by imaginative wandering, it is based on concrete experiences. Emily Dickinson presents the same insight into the historical experiences of her time. The very first stanza symbolizes the paradox of finding oneself through losing oneself. It is rendered in the poem by one word: identity is claimed when someone claimed the gun as her own. The American civil war was also the process of finding ones own identity by losing ones own identity. The internal rivalries and petty identities were to be removed to achieve a national reconciliation. This national reconciliation ultimately brought the national identity. Although this process was on halt and stayed â€Å"in corners† for many decades till a day came. Now they â€Å"roam in Sovereign Woods†. So Emily Dickinson has epitomized a national experience. Now this â€Å"gun† is â€Å"foe of His Im deadly foe†. â€Å"His can be described in various connotations. â€Å"His† is emblem of nation state that is fully sovereign. â€Å"His† is an integrated society or the one who longs to be integrated after the pathos and miseries of Civil war. Poetess further emphasize that â€Å"None stir the second time -/ whom I lay a Yellow Eye -/ an emphatic Thumb†. All these gestures are for those who are internal or external antagonists to the new national experience. This poem has also captivated the feminist attention who has given it a new evaluative dimension. Some critics are of the view that thorough this poem, Emily has tried to present a woman that she was not primarily in the second half of the 19th century whereas other feminist critics holds the view that poem totally negates the feminine qualities and the main metaphor considers â€Å"everything [that]woman is not: cruel not pleasant, hard not soft, emphatic not weak, one who kills not one who nurtures. † (Bennet, 1986) But Emily Dickinson has provided a framework of power i. e. feminine power and established certain pattern on which women power can grow and has shown certain direction where women power can direct itself. It must be kept in mind that all the action verbs in the poem are not destructive or of insidious nature. It expresses powers to hunt speak† smile guard and kill. So this power has paradoxical nature and a balance mix of these powers is necessary as shown and done by Emily Dickinson. Furthermore, Miss Dickinson does show a longing for deadliness but in actuality it is only for safeguarding. Wrath is a part of her being but she does not let it go if not invoked or incited. So her aggression and anger and the consequences as a result of it (killing and deaths) are not unwomanly but are an extension of her very personality. These feelings are not uncommon but are surely unpredictable. In the second half of the poem, she is only providing guard to one who has helped her to get rid of her alienation and had blessed her with intimacy. Here Emily Dickinson seems conventional in her feminist approach that a woman can do everything unwomanly for the one who is her companion in true sense of the word. Christine Miller (1987) says in this regard that â€Å"In the second instance, the speaker prefers guarding the master to having shared his pillow, that is, to having shared intimacy with himprimarily sexual, one would guess from the general structure of the poem. † On the other hand, this poem expresses the agonies of a female poet that was restricted by her family and society to a narrow life devoid of any intellectual and/or literary independence. These social and familial compulsion produced rashness in Emily’s attitude. She was forced to produce art in seclusion and to it keep to herself only. So language becomes her only mean and tool to bear the torments of her intellectual beings. She embodies language as gun and is of the view that this loaded gun accompanied with her literary beings is fatal for socio-cultural compulsion against women. It provided her a sense of power and control. She further eulogizes language and considers it a safeguard to her literary being. And her language is enemy to al those traditions, norms, people and things who are against her poetical endeavors. This poem can further illustrate the conflicts between two classes with their interest. Although this conflict is not materialistic or monetary but it exists in the socio-cultural domain. One class adheres to the conventions and does not allow female members to express their view on any issue especially in the form of poetry whereas other lass are comprised of the intellectual beings who consider it their right to create and disseminate their thoughts and ideas in the literary form. This poem symbolizes the struggle of the latter class and demonstrates that they are more powerful than the convention-ridden society. The poem starts with an individual quest for his/her identity but it changed into a capitalized â€Å"We†. Now the concern of the poetess is no more individualistic and sentimental, rather it has been transformed into something collective, societal and concrete. The identities have been mingled up with each other. Both owner and the â€Å"owned† perform the same masculine activities. They are no more individual but become a part of the larger whole i. e. society. Overall the poem captures a variety of themes through various thematic expressions. Although the conclusion is disturbing but it has relevance to the thematic expressions as it tries to resolve the problem initiated in the first half. Powerlessness or even fear of that is death to the poetess has no other option but â€Å"to die† without powerlessness. Last stanza is not a moralistic commentary but is identification of a wider truth. Bennett, Paula. My Life a Loaded Gun: Dickinson, Plath, Rich, and Female Creativity. Boston: Beacon Press. 1986. The Consequences Of Melting Polar Ice Caps Environmental Sciences Essay

The Consequences Of Melting Polar Ice Caps Environmental Sciences Essay The polar ice caps that we see today have taken centuries to form and they ve been melting from time to time in order to form lakes and rivers that are essential not only for animal and plant life, but for humans as well all over the world. Furthermore, as precipitation takes its toll the ice caps that melt gets replaced by fresh snow that is later on over time converted to ice. Thus it is safe to say that the melting of the polar ice caps is a normal occurrence, however it becomes a problem when the ice caps melt at a fast rate and turning into water faster and in more quantity than the fresh snow replacing it. This is the current situation of most of today s polar ice caps all over the world. As they reduce in size, stability, and strength they eventually break off and melt away thereby increasing sea levels among other things. The major consequences of melting polar ice caps can be said in the following order below: 1. Global Warming. We are currently experiencing warmer temperatures all over the world today as temperatures have gone high, and global warming is becoming more alarming day by day. This rise in temperature helps polar ice caps melt faster than it should be. Ice caps have even disappeared in certain parts of the world due to this. The melting of the polar ice caps increases global warming because ice glaciers deflects or bounces off about 80% heat from the sun and retain or absorb about 20% of it. However, when sunlight falls on earth, only 20% of the heat is deflected and 80% is absorbed. This in turn increases sea water temperatures, melting ice faster causing the earth to get warmer. 2. Shortage of Fresh Water. Earth looks sort of enveloped and covered with water when seen from space which causes people to think that we are self-sufficient with water. However, this is just the opposite as most of the water that we can see from space in pictures is just salt water that is not good for human use and only 2% of it is considered as freshwater good enough for human use in which 70% of it comes from ice caps and glaciers. People in certain parts of the world depend on this fresh source of water for not only drinking but for agricultural purposes as well. There are certain areas around the Himalayas that are currently in crisis due to this especially in dry months as populations rise. 3. Reduced Agricultural Output. To begin with, for the areas where agriculture mainly depends on rain, they won t be effected by melting of the ice caps. However these areas are few around the world. Areas that are affected are those that depend on fresh water coming from ice caps and glaciers. When ice caps keep on melting there will be lesser fresh water for agriculture which will make the lands dry and not suitable for agriculture thus reduce the total output leading to a shortage in harvest. 4. Excessive Flooding. There are ice caps all over the world and it should be understood that the difference between polar ice caps and ice caps is that the later are present also on lands. Melting of these ice caps causes excessive flooding which is very dangerous for the people and animals that are living in those areas as it would destroy homes, habitats, and lives. Furthermore, polar ice caps and ice glaciers on higher altitudes melt faster which form new lakes and raise river water levels as well causing floods. This is also a cause of concern as when these river water levels rise and lakes burst, they lead to major disasters destroying everything crossing its path. 5. Rise In Sea Level. As the polar ice caps melt at a faster rate, the more the sea levels rise. The consequences of this will be of dire magnitude and people living in coastal regions all over the world will have to relocate and live somewhere else, thereby decreasing amount of living space, due to soil erosion, flooding, and their fresh water being contaminated with salt water of the sea. It has been estimated that the sea level rising 1mm to 2mm per year. It has also been estimated that in the U.S there will be a 3-foot rise in sea level in the Gulf coast which will lead to the deluge of more tha 22,000 square miles of land. 6. Habitat Loss. There are plenty of animals, birds, and even fishes that depend on the polar ice caps and its temperatures for their survival. There are fishes depend on food such as phytoplankton and sea-plants that are underwater near the ice caps and there are birds such as snow owls that depend on these fishes near the ice caps and animals and humans who depend on certain birds for food. They are all connected. As sea water temperatures get warmer and sea levels rise, the sea plants in which these fishes feed off n live on will eventually die out n disappear and this in turn will lead to the increase in the death toll of fishes and birds will reduce due to lack of fishes to feed on, making survival for birds very difficult. Thus disturbing the whole ecosystem. Furhtermore the reduction of fishes has an impact on the polar bear as they have much less to feed on forcing them to take long journeys away from their habitat which also forces to eat what they don t normally eat. This journey is a risky one as some of the polar bear don t make it alive an die on the way as there are many threats as starvation and threats underwater such as killer whales and sharks. Seals, whales, and walruses are also adapting to this change to migrating patters which makes hunting for them by natives very difficult thus leaving the natives without food as well. In addition to the melting of the ice caps, blocks of ice are breaking off forcing seals to give bith underwater which causes many of the pups to die by drowning. Also separation occurs due to breaking of the ice at young ages leading to higher mortality rates. 7. Coral Reefs Will Vanish. Coral reefs need sunlight for photosynthesis not only for their own survival but also for the survival of the various types of fishes that depend on it. As sea levels rise higher making waters deeper, the presence of sunlight under water becomes lesser as the sunlight becomes harder to reach the coral reefs. This in turn corrupts the quality of corals and may even kill them. Certain fishes won t survive as they depend on the reefs for food and this will later have an impact on people who depend on fish for survival. 8. Recontamination Of Earth. Most people today have never even heard DDT and such pesticides as they were banned all over the world years ago. These substances were airborne and eventually wounded up in cooler areas near the ice caps and polar ice caps. Unfortunately the story doesn t end there as most of these harmful airborne chemicals got trapped inside the polar ice caps and glaciers, which later chunks of ice melt and break off, the chemicals, are then released back into the environment in seas, rivers, and lakes containing glaciers. 9. Melting Of The Polar Ice Caps Affects The Whole World. The melting of the polar ice caps is not only limited to specific parts of the world. The rapid melting of the ice is a global concern and its consequences affect the whole world in every continent, especially when it comes to global warming. Conclusion In conclusion, the consequences of the melting polar ice caps are not only limited to specific areas of the world but rather are a global consequence and one that has many concerns and should be dealt with immediately because the polar ice caps are still melting and sea levels are rising, effecting us all over the world as mentioned above. Unfortunately nothing can be done about the rapid melting of the polar ice caps at the moment but global warming is a major factor in the rapid decrease of the ice caps and everyone should contribute to reduce global warming as a first step.

Women’s Self-Discovery During Late American Romanticism / Early Realism

When we think of women writers today we see successful, gifted and talented women. Although these women writers have been established for sometime their status of contributions to society has only been recognized way too late. During the late romantic/early realism period numerous women found success in writing despite the fact that they may have encountered numerous obstacles in their path. The characters these women wrote about almost have a kinship with themselves bringing out certain personality traits not seen written about women before. From these traits a voice emerges in literature that has been hidden from the public view. This new true voice of female self-discovery finally comes out for the public to see in numerous works of that day. Courage, independence and emotional portrayal are the pivotal key traits that make up their self-discovery in the works of numerous female writers such as Gilman, Freeman, Woolson, and Chopin. These women writers were writing in the day where women were taught to maintain their place in society and family. After the Civil War â€Å"the homosocial world of women’s culture began to dissolve as women demanded entrance to higher education, the professions, and the political world† (Showalter 67). The roles of housewife and society maiden that were created by society did not allow for any room of expression by these women. The lack of women who at this time were seeking a higher education or pursuing the arts was very small. If they did not come from a family who supported them in their quest than most likely they did not get the chance to pursue their dreams. If a woman did want to extend their learning most of the time they did it in secrecy. Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults Essay

Principles Effective communication is the key for developing and maintaining positive relationships with others. It helps build trust and encourage others to seek advices and share relevant information. We can strengthen or weaken someone’s trust in us by what we say and do. To strengthen a relationship, be honest and open with them, and try to understand their point of views. Help develop a relationship with children by doing things that build their trust in you. This will show them how to trust others and behave in a way which helps others trust them. Communication is a two way process and it is an active process that involves listening, questioning, understanding and responding. How we listen to others is just as important as what we say to them. The most effective form of listening for building good relationships is empathic listening. empathic listening means listening with the intention of really understanding what the other person means and how the other person feels. make an effort to see things from their point of view, they will feel supported and understood, and are much more likely to open up and tell us about what’s happening in their lives and how they feel. Effective communication is not just about the words we use, but also about the way we are speaking and the body language. If we all use effective communication, we are more likely to communicate information to one another if we have positive relationship. Misunderstandings always lead to bad feeling and resulted in people reluctant to give beneficial support. The principle of relationship building with children and adults are that if others are comfortable in our company, they will be more likely to communicate effectively. To build a positive relationship, mutual respect is essential. Respecting others means being considerate towards them, thinking  about their feelings and accepting that they may have different views and opinions to you. When you take all consideration to respect people, they would in turn respect you. Good relationship also involves giving to others, for example, your time, consideration, kindness etc. When we give, it’s most likely that others will give back and it’s a mutual benefit. Mutual benefit is about two people will try to find a way to cooperate with each other because they want each other to benefit and keep the good relationship last. It may not always be easy to find a way that works for both people, but if we take the time to understand each other, we are more likely to find a solution. Take time to listen to others. Focus on what they are saying to show that you are interested and respond appropriately. Tune in to their body language to try to work out what they are feeling and expressing. Try to see things from their point of view. Understanding make others feel comfortable around us. We can help children to understand that everyone is different and everyone see the world in different ways. If they accept and learn to value these differences in others, they are more likely to develop good relationships with others. In addition, the differences between the people in these relationships will inspire them to open their minds to creative ideas and new ways of thinking, and this build and strengthen a relationship. In order to adapt our communication effectively, we need to understand who we are talking to and in different situations. The context of our communication makes a difference both in the way we engage with others and in the way they interpret our communication. Hold conversations at the appropriate time and place. Formal occasions like ceremonies and business presentations require more formal language and dress. Informal occasions like hanging out with your family or friends allow you to be more relaxed and casual. Jokes and slang words exchange with friends may not be appropriate at the work place or in school. Know your audience, think about cultural and language differences. Language  and the meaning of words have different meaning in different culture. Slang words can be normal in one culture can be offensive in another culture. However, the spoken word is not the only way in which we communicate to each other, it’s also the way we respond to others via email, notes, letters, phone messages and text messages. These non-spoken forms of communication can be an issue if they are misread by others, therefore they require a conscious choice of words. We also need to consider the words we choose base on the audience’s age, education, background and literacy level of the person we talk to. Use appropriate words that they can understand so they may be find more easier and comfortable to connect and communicate with us. Body language can be interpreted differently in different situations and different culture, for example, eye contact is generally a good way to connect with the person we are talking with, but in some culture, it’s not polite to so. Skills Effective communication is a vital part of a Teaching Assistant’s role. It’s essential to send the right messages across to prevent any misunderstanding and offending others’ feelings, especially children learn to communicate through the responses of others. To be able to have effective communication with children and young people, listening and building empathy are two of the essential skills for communication. Actively listen to the child that are trying to talk to you and make eye contact in a calm, open, non-judgemental, non-threatening way and use open questions to acknowledge what had been said. Make them know that you are interested in what they have to say and make them feel their contribution is valued. When they are talking, give them sufficient times to process their thoughts and opportunities to express themselves. Some children need a little bit of confident to speak up and by given some time to ‘warm up’, they will be able to do so. Be able to adapt styles of communication to the needs and abilities of children and young people who do not communicate verbally, or communicate in different ways. For example, spoken language, visual communication, play, body and sign language, information and communication technologies to meet the needs of the individual child or young person and their families and carers. Children should feel relaxed and comfortable in school to be able to have effective communication. We should encourage them to ask questions and put their ideas forward, as communication is a two-way dialogue and process rather than a one-way flow of instructions. This can in turn build respectful, trusting and supportive relationship with children and young people. To have a positive relationship with children and young people, we will need to adapt our behaviours and communications accordingly. Different ages of children will have different requirements. Younger children may need more reassurance, more cuddle and physical contacts while older children want more space to be independent and help and support to lead them on the right path. While dealing with children in a variety of different situations, we must also consider the individual needs of the children. Some children will need us to be extra patient for them to get a word out. They might be feeling anxious or nervous and need to take their times to ease themselves before speaking up. Or some children require a one-to-one dealing only they are comfortable to talk to the adult. In order to build an effective communication with children, the behaviour that we need to adapt are, tones of voice, gestures, body language, eye contact and showing respect. Although these behaviours are also similarities when communicating with adults, however, when communicating with children, we need to do so at the child’s own level, be very clear and unambiguous in what we say. Asking question to check understanding, by showing understanding of the importance of giving attention so that the child feels that their contributions are valued and boost their self-esteem. Take time to listen to them and give them opportunity to encourage them for  communication. Showing understating of the importance for them to express themselves and to be heard so that they will be able to express themselves with ease and in their own manners, words and time. When communicating with adults, we need to be respectful and consider their point of views, needs and preferences. Use method that appropriate to adult than the methods that we use in children. We may have higher tones when speaking to a child and making funny voices to attract the child’s interest, we may not do so when communicate with an adult. We also need to show understanding and respond positively to their views and suggestions, give information when requested. Ensure to them that there is organisational policy with respect to confidentiality and the exchange of information, importance of the confidentiality of shared information. Clarify any uncertainties in understanding. When communicate in an effective way we will build and effective and positive relationship with children, young people and adults. It’s also important to adapt our communication style to meet the needs of other adults in a fair, non-judgemental and effective manner. For example: 1. someone who speak English as an additional language – We may need to speak slowly and repeat what we are saying and check their understanding. Or we may need to provide a interpreter if the information is difficult to convey. 2. Someone with a hearing impaired – make sure to face the person when speaking to them and make eye contact so that they can lip-read. We may need sign language or someone who knows sign language to communicate with them. 3. Someone who has special needs in communication – speak clearly and slowly or use visual aid such as pictures, photographs, objects, symbols, written words and flashcards to make them more easier to understanding. Being sensitive and considerate to potential difficulties in communication is essential. It’s important to be aware that people are different, man y are come from different culture and adult can find communication difficult. Always respect others and their point of views and never make assumptions and come to the conclusion of what others are trying to communicate with us. There will always be a time when you disagree with somebody, they’re often inevitable. When disagreements build, conflict occurs. Managing conflict require skilful techniques. These techniques helps dealing with disagreements and the way we cope with it is important. Often disagreements are down to lack of communication with others and as a direct result of misunderstanding. Always clarify the issued at hand and try to resolve the situation as soon as possible. The longer a problem is allowed to go on, the more difficult it will be to resolve it. This could resulted in bad feeling for each other. When a disagreement arise with children, where they are being disobedient, we would have to point out the boundaries and explain in a calm but firm way that it is not wise to cross the boundaries. Sometimes adults may not have the same ideas and has their own perspective on what has caused the conflict. It is best we deal with the conflict with calmness, listen carefully to their point of view and politely put forward our point of view or may need to work alongside other to explain why things need to happen in a different way in school. If necessary take time to make an appointment with the parents or carers to discuss situation in further details to cle ar out any misunderstanding. Sometimes certain situation can be sensitive, always deal with the issues not the emotions and the people involved. We can also deal with a difficult situation with positive body language, approach and speak in positive manners, remain calm and polite to make others feel ease and willing to resolve any disagreement. Regulations Anyone who work with children in any setting need to be aware that all information must be treated confidentially as stated in the Data Protection Act 1998. It is important that all member of staff must be familiar with the legislation and follow the guidelines. The Data Protection Act 1998 is the law that protects personal privacy and upholds individuals’ rights. The act also gives rights to the people the information is about. By law, everyone in the workplace must follow the rules set out in the act and help to protect individuals’ rights. When working in children’s setting, there is certain information that has to be gathered in order to work effectively.  However, we can only ask for information which is directly relevant, such as: health or medical information records from previous schools records for children who have special education needs. Contact number and address The act helps to make sure that the information held on computers and in some paper-based systems is managed properly. We must protect personal information by following the eight principles of good practice: processed fairly and legally processed for limited purpose and in an appropriate way relevant and sufficient for the purpose accurate and keep up to date kept for no longer than necessary processed in line with the individual’s right kept secure only transferred to other countries that have suitable data protection controls Confidentiality is important within the school. All records are stored safely so that access is restricted to only those who are involved. We should not pass on information without following the correct procedures. It can have a serious impact on parents and their children. We are abusing our profession position by betraying their trust. It is essential that we reassurance parents that all of their information is kept in confidential manner. Assure them that information will not be discussed with anyone. If for some cases, information of a child needs to be share with other professional such as the social service, parent consent would need to be given. Although not all information is confidential. There may also be cases where information on pupils need to be accessible to all staff, for example, where pupils have specific medical conditions such as asthma, so that all staff are aware of these pupils. As a matter of good practice practitioners should inform children, young people and families about their service’s policy on how information will be shared and seek their consent. All information is strictly confidential except if we are made aware of the child’s situation that may or has caused harm to them. For example: when we suspect that the child is being abused when there has been an injuries, illness or similar manner that medical staff need the information on how it might have happened the child is at risk of a sexual abused We should at all time let the individual knows that we will not be able to keep confidentiality if they disclose something which we cannot keep to ourselves for these reasons as a safeguarding and the welfare of the child.

But still it can be append with other monster products. At the same time our bar would be a perfect add on with a customer who frequently purchase energy drinks (especially Monster Energy) and would buy our energy bar on top of that. Packaging Packaging is very essential for any product development. The strategies we are going to use for packaging of â€Å"Monster Energy Bars† are clear visible of amen, logo and flavor. The logo will be same as â€Å"Monster Energy Drinks† because it has already cr eated image in the mind of the customers. This will help to draw attention towards existing customers and generate new customers. We are going to use airtight, vacuum, packaging with black, red, orange and yellow colors (corresponding to each flavor). The bar is going to have very clean and distinctive design and matte finish. The packaging will have English and French version of nutrition facts, ingredients, manufactured date, best before use and it will be certified by government (all of the ingredients are approved by required health standards). We want our bar to be percept as a new, innovative, high quality product. By choo sing skim pricing strategy we are aiming to establish a recognizable, high quality product that will attract early adopters and those people who follow the latest trends and innovations and are looking for new and exciting products and flavors on the market. The MSP is 52. 4 CAD with a mark-up of 71 % from the unit cost of $0. 7 CAD, and there's is a margin of 48% for the wholesaler. MSP $2. 40 Wholesaler price $1. 34 Cost $0. 70 There is a cost per unit of $0. 7 CAD, includes Manufacturing materials, labeling and packing. The expected mark up for the product is 48% assuming that 44% will be the cost of the wholesale. We have calculated the cost which contains overhead expense, cost of goods sold, etc. As we have adopted skimming marketing strategies the price margin is also higher. Our MIMIC should be one that can create and nourish profitable relationships with our target customers and create an avenue for purposeful dialogue with them. For our Integrated Marketing Communications st rategy, we are going to incorporate the producer marketing activities to retailers and wholesalers who resell to our target customers, the rationale behind this is to ensure trade promotion(Cooperative Advertising) by producer and personal selling, as well as to enhance sales promotion by wholesaler or the retailer and public relations.
